Celebrating CAS: Hannah's Art 180 Residency
Sometimes figuring out how to keep going with CAS over the summer can be a challenge, but not for Hannah Gallagher, who spent this summer in the 9-week Atlas Artist Residency through Art 180, a CAS Community-based Creativity experience. Hannah found that this program helped her grow as an artist by implementing deadlines and giving her the chance to try a new mode of artistic expression: creating a multimedia piece for her final work. She also benefitted from the collaborative nature of the program.
One surprise was seeing the global impact of art. Hannah reflected, "I think the one thing I didn’t expect was how globally intensive art was. Not every big impact of art has to be on a world wide scale, I saw that the day of our exhibition, with how many people came flooding in to give complements to my work. Most of all to say how they have felt what I have. That they saw themselves within my self-portrait. That bonding experience of strangers. How important it is for you to put yourself out there, give your message to the world, and giving a part of yourself to the community can be a momentous act. I learned that through these self meditations, the self affirmations that we did every day would build a better world. The reason being is because the kindness starts with yourself and being able to recognize your worth. You will soon be able to give back that positivity to others and show others how to love themselves, you give back that kindness you feel and so do those around you and it soon becomes a never ending domino effect."
Hannah's art, along with the art of the other Resident Artists from RPS, is being shown this month at Art Works Gallery. It can be seen through September 29, with a special Fourth Friday celebration on September 22. Please see the flyer for details.
